Hooligans! (And maybe some Doo-Wops, too, whatever those are.) Bruno Mars’ rep says he's been the victim of the internet rumour mill, so if you've heard anything in the last two days about the pop star coming out of the closet, Mars wants you to know he never said anything of the sort.
The "Grenade" singer's rep contacted Gossip Cop, saying any such reports are "completely fabricated" and "false." But in case you've only heard those kind of stories from your bigoted uncle, the one who's been unusually critical of Mars' sparkly little jackets since last year's Grammy Awards, here's the back story:
CNN iReport, the network's online citizen journalism site, is where the rumours gained traction, the New York Post's Page Six reports. The headline "Bruno Mars Comes Out of the Closet" was posted to the site on April 2 (it appears to have been removed since then, though Gossip Cop still has a screen shot), and Mars became a trending topic on Twitter within a day.
There was little information in the iReport post; Huffington Post notes the "story" was limited to the following line: "The famous pop-star Bruno Mars admits his homosexuality." But Gossip Cop reports that a second article at another (unnamed outlet) followed, and according to that one, Mars had made the confession to a Chicago radio station.
On April Fool's Day.
Mars himself has not commented on the situation. Last night, the pop singer performed as part of an all-star bill at a Rainforest Fund gala in New York.
